Several Gators were in action at the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships Friday. Florida also had swimmers competing over in England, where freshman Jessica Thielmann has qualified for the Great Britain National Team.
Across the Atlantic Ocean in Sheffield, England, Thielmann is representing the Gators at the 2013 British Nationals. After a second place finish in the 1,500m free, she has qualified for the Great Britain National Team that will compete at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona. Thielmann clocked in second in the 1,500m free with a time of 16:19.92.
Making his second event final was sophomore Matt Elliott. During the finals, he made a strong surge in the last 50 to almost catch the leader and finished second with a time of 1:02.34. Elliott swam his way into the B-Final of the 100m breast with his prelim time of 1:02.90.
Swimming a great race in the 400 free A-Final was former Gator Conor Dwyer, but after a review the officials ruled that he was disqualified for a false start. Dwyer has already qualified for the World Championships in the 200m free.
In prelim action, junior Alicia Mathieu competed in the 400m free for the Gators. She finished 14th overall after clocking in with a time of 4:14.41, but did not compete in the finals. Also swimming the 400m free was freshman Arthur Frayler. Frayler touched the wall in 4:00.29 to finish 26th overall in prelims.
