Police arrested a Gainesville man Wednesday evening after they say he chased his wife, who was in an electric wheelchair, around an apartment parking lot with a knife.

Izell Sams, 58, got into an argument with his wife, went inside and grabbed a knife and chased her outside their apartment in the 4000 block of Southwest 17th Place, according to a Gainesville Police Department report.

Sams was held back by someone else at the scene, the report said. He fled before police arrived and was arrested several hours later.

Sams admitted to police that he had a knife but said it was only for cleaning fish.

Sams was arrested on a felony charge of domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held Thursday at the Alachua County jail without bond.
