Meanwhile, the price of crude oil ticked up slightly amid tensions surrounding Syria, a decline in the value of the dollar, and improved jobs and sales numbers in the United States, according to the travel club's Weekly Fuel Price Brief.

"Motorists shouldn't be surprised to see retail gas prices creep higher this week as tensions in the Mideast increase and create concerns of supply disruptions," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman with The Auto Club Group. "Although pump prices are higher now than they were this time last year, the Energy Information Administration expects the summer average price for a gallon of regular retail gas to average $3.53, about the same as last year."

In Gainesville, the average price of a gallon of gas was stable at $3.56, according to the crowd-sourced website www.gasbuddy.com. In Ocala, the average price was 3.486 and was going down.
