Motorcyclist killed in collision with car
A Lake City man was killed Wednesday night when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car, according to a report.
Ernest Creel, 68, was driving a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle on Baya Avenue at 9:15 p.m. when Michael Pate, 33, of Live Oak pulled onto the road from Perry Avenue, according to a Lake City Police report.
Creel, who was not wearing a helmet, collided with Pate’s 1994 Toyota Camry. Creel was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital at Lake Shore, where he later died from his injuries, the report said. Pate was uninjured.

GFR: Fire destroys abandoned house
Firefighters battled an early morning fire Thursday that destroyed a vacant Gainesville house, according to a report.
Several units from Gainesville Fire Rescue arrived at the house at Southeast 13th Street and First Avenue at 12:15 a.m., and firefighters secured the utilities while others put the fire out within five minutes, the report said.
No one was inside the structure, and fire officials determined the 1,500-square-foot house had been abandoned, GFR said.
The cause of the fire was undetermined.

Pensacola soldier killed in Afghanistan
PENSACOLA — A Florida Panhandle soldier has died in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense reported Wednesday that 31-year-old Jessie L. Thomas Jr. of Pensacola was killed while serving in Helmand, Afghanistan.
The Army did not release details about how Thomas died but said the incident was under investigation.
Thomas was assigned to the 39th transportation battalion, which is based in Germany.
