The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. July 12 at the Phillips Center on the University of Florida campus at SW 34th Street and Hull Road. Tickets are on sale now for $10-$45 by calling 352-392-2787 or online at http://performingarts.ufl.edu/the-ultimate-thriller-a-michael-jackson-tribute/.
Todd Taylor, public relations associate at the Phillips Center, said the concert is based on Jackson's "Dangerous" and "Bad" concert tours and will feature such classic hits as "Billie Jean," "Beat It," "Black or White" and "Man in the Mirror."
The show also will include songs from the days when Jackson was a member of The Jackson 5, along with selected songs from the "Thriller" and "Off The Wall" albums. The lineup will feature Jackson impersonator Fabio Morda of Italy, four musicians, two background singers and four dancers.
"What makes it stand out are the people who were his people working behind the scenes, making sure it (the production) is authentic," said Amy Douglas, marketing director at the Phillips Center. "Their focus is quality."
The production is supported by LaVelle Smith Jr., choreographer and principal dancer for Jackson on the "Dangerous," "Bad" and "History" tours; Mic Thompson, a principal dancer for Jackson who can be seen on the "Dangerous" and "Ghosts" videos, and Michael Prince, a longtime recording and audio engineer of Jackson's television and live performances.
Douglas said "The Ultimate Thriller" is as authentic as it can get without Michael Jackson. "Michael Jackson set the bar so phenomenally high, there is no one like him before or since," said Douglas. "This is as close as it gets."
"The Ultimate Thriller" has toured worldwide in Moscow and in the U.S. in Denver and Ft. Lauderdale.
