Little Jake Mitchell & the Soul Searchers of Gainesville kicked off the first concert in celebration of African-American Music Appreciation Month before a packed crowd Friday night in downtown Gainesville.

he concerts, planned for Fridays in June, are held in conjunction with the Let's Go Downtown "Free Fridays" concert series sponsored by the city of Gainesville and held at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza.

This Friday, the concert from 8-10 p.m. will feature Wester Joseph's Stereo Vudu performing what the group calls "vudu rawk."

Featured also this month will be Fast Lane (R&B/soul/funk) on June 21 and De Lions of Jah (reggae) on June 28.
