A 54-year old Gainesville woman is alleged to have stabbed her boyfriend multiple times during an argument early Wednesday and now is in the Alachua County jail charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to a police report.
Police arrested Verlene Williams shortly after arriving at her residence at 3180 SE 21st Ave., where they observed the victim, her 56-year old boyfriend of one year, with an open gash on the right side of his head and a deep, open cut on his upper right arm. He also had a cut on his left eyebrow and right hip area.
The victim told police he and Williams had been in a verbal argument when she began attacking him with a sharp weapon he described as some sort of utility knife or hand tool. He also said he tried to grab Williams by the wrists to restrain her.
When Williams was arrested, she had blood all over the front of the dress she was wearing, police reported. When questioned about the blood, Williams said it might have belonged to her boyfriend, according to the report. Williams’ lower left arm also had scratches on it.
Williams gave conflicting statements during her interrogation, stating at one point that she had used a knife on her boyfriend and then later saying she had used a fork, police reported. She also went back and forth on whether or not her boyfriend was ever inside her home that night.
Williams remained jailed Wednesday in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
