Better than yammering

Although I have no idea what electronic dance music is — and who Pharrell, Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida are — I'm sure they're preferable to Jake Fuller and Ward Scott's yammering on The Star 99.5 FM show “Talk of the Town.”

Clayton Smith,

People will find them

Jake and Ward remind me of a fine restaurant — one good enough that, if relocated, people will find.

Randy Talbot,

Monument to nothing

Dateline: Starke, Fla.

“Monument to Atheism to be erected.”

Okay then; atheism being the belief in nothing, we will now have a monument to “nothing” to enjoy.

Reminds me of the bronze sign erected by my pool: “On this site in 1897 — nothing happened.”

Jim Clayton,

Not one word

The Gainesville Sun on May 30 contained not one word about any of the scandals affecting the White House. Not one. It did, however, contain a full-page story about little boys who want to be little girls. This is the urgent news of the day?

I suppose The Sun hopes that by ignoring news it doesn't like, that news will go away. The question is why I continue to spend my money for this.

Keith Shapiro,

Just a farce

Political groups claiming tax-exempt status is a farce, no matter what flavor they are. What this IRS targeting will do is cause Congress to make it more difficult, if not impossible, to investigate any tax-exempt status claim from any group or individual.

And if the IRS can't investigate, I say, where is my application? I think I have as much right to be tax exempt as anybody. Probably more so.

Of course, what should probably happen is the IRS should be disbanded. But that's a subject for another day.

Steven Mossburg,

Reactivate the room

Smoke-filled rooms — that's what we need! In this past election Mitt Romney was clearly the Republican choice to face President Obama, but before he got his shot he had to defeat the likes of Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul.

Perhaps it may be time for the Democrats to reactivate their room and tell Obama “Fake an illness. You are out of here.”

Please Democrats consider this.

Bill Samples,
