A 12-year-old girl was killed and two drivers were injured in a car crash in Columbia County over the weekend.
Norma Jean Schenck, 43, of Fort White was driving a 1996 Dodge pickup truck north on State Road 47 at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a release by Florida Highway Patrol. Megan Nicole Rigdon, 12, also of Fort White, was in the truck.
At the intersection of Southwest King Street, an eastbound Honda S2000 driven by Joshua Nolan Orndorff, 31, of Tallahassee ran a stop sign and collided with the pickup truck, according to the FHP.
The Honda skidded onto the shoulder of the road and struck a utility pole.
The pickup truck turned over, throwing both Schenck and Rigdon out of the vehicle. Neither of them was wearing a seatbelt, according to the FHP.
Rigdon died at the scene. Schenck was critically injured and Orndorff was seriously injured in the crash, according to the release.
Both were taken to UF Health Shands Hospital.
