Rising sophomore Michael Frazier II accepted an invitation to USA Basketball's training camp for the U19 FIBA World Championships. The team will be coached by UF coach Billy Donovan.
“I'm excited for Michael to be invited,” Donovan said. “USA Basketball is always looking for good outside shooting, and he certainly provides that.”
Frazier is one of 24 players scheduled to compete for 12 roster spots during the June 14-19 training camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Finalists for the roster spots will be announced June 16, with the official 12-man roster to be set in the following days. The tournament will be held June 27 through July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic.
“It's an honor to have this opportunity with USA Basketball,” Frazier said. “I'm really looking forward to competing with some of the best players in the country and trying to earn a place on the team.”
Frazier earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors last season as part of the Gators' regular rotation, averaging 5.6 points and 3.1 rebounds with a .468 3-point field goal percentage in 36 games with one start (18.0 minutes per game).
Meanwhile, rising senior forward Will Yeguete underwent right knee surgery Wednesday at UF Health Shands Hospital. His recovery is initially projected at four months.
