A Gainesville man was arrested Monday on allegations he tried to steal a purse and did steal a bicycle during an illegal drug deal, according to an arrest report.
Alvin Lee Strain, 46, of 1725 NE 8th Ave., was charged by Gainesville police with robbery by sudden snatching for an incident that occurred about 6:27 a.m. Monday in southeast Gainesville.
The arrest report states that Strain grabbed the woman’s purse when she refused to complete an illegal drug deal. She tried to stop him, causing the strap on the purse to break. She was able to get the purse.
Meanwhile, Strain reportedly stole the woman’s bicycle, telling her he was taking it as collateral. He rode away on it.
The report states that Strain admitted to police that he took the bike but denied trying to take the purse.
