Strong storm threatens eastern Alachua County

The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory for eastern Alachua County, calling for strong winds and possible hail.
The NWS reports that a strong thunderstorm is centered four miles northeast of Orange Heights and is moving west at 5 mph.Gusts of wind up to 55 mph will be possible, with heavy rain and three-quarter-inch hail.
The storm is expected to affect areas around Newnans Lake, the Gainesville Airport, Melrose, Orange Heights and Waldo.
The alert is in effect at least through 3:30 p.m.
