Eastside athlete signs scholarship

Eastside High School senior Richard “Rick” Johnson Jr. signed a football scholarship last Thursday to attend Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. The signing was held at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where the Johnsons are members. Johnson, 6’3” and 300 pounds, will play offensive guard or tackle for the Rattlers. He played center and defensive tackle last season for the Rams. He said the FAMU coaching staff, led by head coach Ernie Holmes, told him to work on his flexibility and strength during the offseason. He will major in biomedical science.
