A state prison inmate who walked away from a work crew in Levy County was found early Wednesday morning when a resident spotted a suspicious person, said sheriff’s Lt. Scott Tummond.
Frederick Pinckney, 37, was found about 3 a.m. not far from where he disappeared about 4 p.m. Tuesday when his crew from the Cross City Work Camp was unloading equipment at a state Department of Transportation facility in Chiefland, Tummond said.
The DOC website shows that Pinckney is serving time for burglary, car theft and weapon convictions in Highlands County.
Tummond said DOC canine teams were in the area at which a suspicious person was seen. The dogs tracked Pinckney to a home and he was taken into custody without incident.
