WINTER HAVEN - A man delivering newspapers in central Florida shot and wounded a suspected attacker.

Winter Haven police report that a man and woman were delivering copies of the Ledger around 3 a.m. Sunday when they noticed a car following them. When the carriers stopped their truck a short time later, police say the car's driver, 23-year-old by Brian Scott Dickey II, approached their truck and fired four shots from a handgun. When Dickey began banging on the window with his gun, the man in the truck pulled his firearm and fired through the window.

Police say Dickey fled the scene, but rescuers were soon called to his home nearby. He was taken to a Lakeland hospital, where he was recovering. He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in public.
