UF vs. Georgia softball postponed


Coach Tim Walton and No. 1 Florida will have to wait until Saturday to play an SEC tournament semifinal against rival Georgia.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Southeastern Conference officials have announced that the SEC Softball Tournament semifinals have been moved to Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, due to inclement weather in the area.

Saturday’s semifinal between No. 5 Georgia and No. 1 Florida will air live on ESPNU, while the second semifinal featuring No. 3 Missouri and No. 2 Tennessee will air on ESPN3. The championship game slated for Saturday at 8 p.m. remains as scheduled and will air live on ESPN.

Session four semifinal tickets will be honored on Saturday, and the stadium will be cleared following the conclusion of the second semifinal game. Re-entry will be allowed at 6:30 p.m. with session five ticket stubs.

FLORIDA vs. GEORGIA PREVIEW

Florida softball freshman center fielder Kirsti Merritt went a career tying 3-for-4 with five RBIs to help lead the top-seeded Gator softball team to an 8-4 victory over Alabama on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Florida became the first team in the country to 50 wins with the victory, as the Gators are now 50-7 overall on the year. UF advances to the conference tournament semifinals and will face Georgia for a fourth time this season, as the Bulldogs defeated LSU, 7-0, in the second quarterfinal Thursday.
