Redshirt freshman Jimmy Clark won the men’s 10,000 meters in stunning fashion Friday, overtaking Arkansas’ Solomon Haile in the final 200 meters to capture the Gators’ second title of the 2013 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, adding to Kyle Strawn’s men’s hammer throw crown.

Clark’s time was 29:44.54, biding his time until the final lap to score 10 points for Florida.

Clark’s title is the fifth 10,000-meter crown in men’s program history and the first since Mike Blaney in 1987. Clark is the first freshman to win the men’s 10,000 meters in UF history.

Florida’s men are leading the way after two days of competition with 35 points. The Gator women are fourth with 14 behind leader Arkansas, who has scored 21 through Friday’s events.
