EVENTS: Shot put, discus
Area track and field athlete I would pay to watch compete: It would be (Eastside senior) Sir Jackson. He's a hurdler. He's dedicated to what he does, and he only has the mind to do his best and to win. If he has a bad day, he still gets through it.
Best movie I've ever seen: “Forrest Gump.”
Coach Adrian Taylor's best words of advice for me: “Have faith.”
Discus or shot put — my favorite event is ... The shot put. Because if I have a bad day or if I'm not getting my marks, I can just punch it and still come in the top-3 in the finals.
Easiest part of my school day: I don't have an easy part. It's all work.
Florida Gators track and field is ... Pretty good. They have a lot of talented people from across the country. My cousin runs for them, Destinee Gause. She's a freshman. She went to school in Ohio.
Getting to wear a state championship medal after winning the Class 3A title in the shot put last week was ... Great. I'm ready to compete for next year.
Hardest part about throwing an 8.8-pound metal ball more than 42 feet? Making your marks and staying in bounds.
I've been competing in the shot put since ... I was eight. Wilamena Hopkins (a Buchholz graduate and current University of Alabama thrower), I was her caddie for a long time, then I started liking it and I started throwing. I went to (AAU) nationals every year, and 2005 was my first Junior Olympics meet in New Orleans. I got second. Every other meet from then, I got first.
Joker on the team? Sir (Jackson) is the funniest person. I'm going to miss him next season.
Key to meeting my goals for next season: To work even harder if I want a state title again.
Least favorite Eastside sports moment? The only part I don't like is when we have to take ice baths.
My ultimate goal as a shot put or discus thrower is ... When I graduate high school, I want to go straight to the Olympics. It'll be 2016. This year, I only get to compete for the AAU national championship.
One person in my life who inspires me most: My mother.
Potential college major? Pediatric nursing.
Quiet-time activity? Most of the time it's just working out, because I have a year-round sport.
Reading the newspaper or going online to get my high school sports coverage? Both.
Sports other than track and field I play: Basketball.
The best track and field athlete in the world is ... Usain Bolt.
University or college choice? My No. 1 college is the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Vacation spot I love: I do want to visit New Orleans again.
Warm-up music choice before a meet? Young Scooter.
Xbox, PlayStation or Wii? PlayStation 3. I just like driving games.
Year I was born: 1997.
Zoo animal I like most: A lion.
