A pedestrian trying to cross at the intersection of West University Avenue and 13th Street was hospitalized with injuries after he was hit by a car early Thursday morning, Gainesville police reported.

Ryan D. Norman, 25, of Kissimmee was struck around 2 a.m. by a gold 1998 Saturn 4-door driven by Terry Cooper, 33, of Gainesville, GPD reported.

Cooper’s vehicle was traveling north on SW 13th Street approaching the intersection of West University Avenue. According to witnesses, Cooper had either a green or yellow signal. Norman was walking east on West University and was either in or near the south side crosswalk, the report stated.

The investigation so far has indicated Cooper had the right-of-way and Norman did not wait for the vehicle to cross.

Police reported that Norman had head trauma.
