The Gainesville Jazz Festival planned for last Saturday night at Tioga Town Center was postponed until this Saturday, due to bad weather, organizers said.
Little Jake Mitchell and the Soul Searchers had to cancel due to a previously scheduled performance.
6 p.m.: Zac Chester Quartet, fusion.
7 p.m.: Hot Club de Ville, Gypsy jazz.
8 p.m.: Ben Champion Quartet, straight-ahead/Latin.
9 p.m.: Gruv Therapy, smooth jazz.
The Gainesville Friends of Jazz, which organizes the annual event, decided to reschedule it for this Saturday given a high probability of rain last Saturday night and the possible danger to sound equipment and instruments, said Marty Liquori, Gainesville Friends of Jazz vice president and executive director of the festival.
“It's raining on and off, which it's forecast to do,” Liquori said mid-afternoon last Saturday. “Rather than chance playing for 40 or 50 people, we've moved it a week, and hopefully we'll get a normal crowd next (this) week.”
The event, which had been scheduled to feature four acts — the Zac Chester Quartet, Hot Club de Ville, the Ben Champion Quartet and Gruv Therapy — from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., will return this week with those performers in their respective times.
Little Jake and the Soul Searchers, which had been scheduled to perform from 10 to 11 p.m. last Saturday, won't appear next week due to a previously scheduled appearance, Liquori said.
Another event at the Tioga Town Center, the 2013 Tioga Car Show, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as scheduled Saturday, with the jazz festival following from 6 to 10 p.m., Liquori said.
