Inclement weather may have kept some residents at home, but it didn't dampen the enthusiasm of those who participated in the 6th annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of East Gainesville held Friday and Saturday at the Howard Bishop Middle School. Twenty-two of the 31 teams that signed up to participate braved the weather to walk laps throughout the night. More than 20 cancer survivors of the 100 that registered walked during the Survivor's Lap. To date, the event has raised more than $40,000, and donations are still coming in, said Yvette Carter, this year's organizer. Carter said the community showed its support and she s pleased with the event and the dedication of the residents who came out.
