The initial autopsy has been completed and the death of Loretta L. Dyer has been ruled a homicide, the Gainesville Police Department said on Tuesday.

Investigators are awaiting toxicology results from the Medical Examiner, which may take six to eight weeks. The official cause of death will not be determined until those results are received, according to GPD spokesman Officer Ben Tobias.

Neighbors found the body of Dyer, 32, on Sunday in her home at 1628 SW 42nd St.

GPD does not have a suspect in custody, Tobias said, but he said on Monday that police are not considering this a public safety emergency.

“We have no evidence that would lead us to believe that the general public is in any type of danger related to this case,” he said.

Authorities are asking that anyone with any knowledge of the case or who may have spent the last few known hours with Dyer contact GPD at (352) 393-7660.

Witnesses can also anonymously submit information by texting keyword “GPDFL” plus the tip to 274637 (CRIMES) or; call the confidential TIP LINE at 393-7700. Cash rewards may be given for information that solves a crime or leads to an arrest.
