MIAMI — Three people were shot at an upscale Miami condominium on Sunday, police said.
The shooting happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the Opera Tower condominium, a high rise building alongside Biscayne Bay in the city's downtown.
Two men were found shot in the lobby and a third on the 30th floor, Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said. All three were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where two of the victims are listed in stable condition. A third was undergoing surgery and in serious condition.
"It is unusual," Reyes said of the shooting, noting that it occurred in the late morning and near a popular walking area. "It seems to be a very quiet area."
The shooting is believed to have occurred in a hallway on the 19th floor. Two of the men went running through the stairwell and then took an elevator to the first floor. The other man went to the 30th floor and knocked on the door of a resident and asked for help.
Each place the men ran to was considered part of the crime scene, creating a trail through the building detectives were piecing together. Reyes said one of the men lived in the building. It remained unclear who fired the shots and what was a possible motive.
But detectives were confident there was not an active gunman in the building.
Residents described being rattled by what they saw.
"All of the lobby, drops, drops, drops of blood," resident Yasmin Mattox told NBC 6 South Florida.
