The Gainesville Jazz Festival planned for Saturday night at Tioga Town Center was postponed until next Saturday, May 11, due to bad weather, organizers said.

The Gainesville Friends of Jazz, which organizes the annual event, decided to reschedule it for next Saturday given a high probability of rain Saturday night and the possible danger to sound equipment and instruments, said Marty Liquori, Gainesville Friends of Jazz vice president and executive director of the festival.

“It’s raining on and off, which it’s forecast to do,” Liquori said mid-afternoon Saturday. “Rather than chance playing for 40 or 50 people, we’ve moved it a week, and hopefully we’ll get a normal crowd next week.”

The event, which had been scheduled to feature four acts — Hot Club de Ville, the Zac Chester Quartet, the Ben Champion Quartet and Gruv Therapy — from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, will return with those performers in their respective times next week.

Little Jake and the Soul Searchers, which had been scheduled to perform Saturday from 10 to 11 p.m., won’t appear next week due to a previously scheduled appearance, Liquori said.

Another event at Tioga Town Center, the 2013 Tioga Car Show, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as scheduled next Saturday, with the jazz festival following from 6 to 10 p.m., Liquori said.
