A Gainesville man has been charged with grand theft after an anonymous tipster identified him to the Williston Police Department as the subject shown in surveillance video stealing from the Ace Hardware store.
After his arrest, Jimmy Wiley, 59, of 1607 SE 39th Place, confessed to stealing two nailers valued at $498, Williston police reported.
Police on March 19 reported to the hardware store, located at 54 SW Main St. in Williston, after employees discovered the apparent thefts while reviewing surveillance video. Police later released screen shots from the video to the media, including The Sun, after which an anonymous tip was fielded by police identifying Wiley.
Wiley was booked into the Levy County jail, where he remained Friday in lieu of $50,000 bond.
