Shuck Restaurant recently opened at 1643 NW First Ave., behind 101 Cantina and The Swamp Restaurant in the spot that last housed O!O Garden Grille for two years and Cafe Gardens for 34 years before that.
Shuck bills itself as a Key West-style raw and seafood bar with a large outdoor patio and bar. The menu includes "Fresh Shucks" and several specialty oyster dishes, fried chicken or seafood baskets, shrimp cocktail, poboy sandwiches, soups and salads. It is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
General manager Ryland Wagner recently resigned after 10 years as head wrestling coach at Gainesville High to run the restaurant.
World of Beer
World of Beer plans to open Monday, May 6 in Tioga Town Center in Jonesville, offering more than 500 bottles of beer from around the world and 40 rotating taps, including Gainesville's Swamp Head and other Florida beers.
The tavern has partnered with nearby restaurants to deliver food to the bar.
WOB will have live music on Fridays and Saturdays and plans to hold larger concerts and outdoor events at the Tioga amphitheater.
Gainesville is the 40th location for the Tampa-based franchise.
The McAlister's Deli on Archer Road has moved and reopened in a larger remodeled location at 3236 SW 35th Blvd., several doors down from its old location in Esplanade at Butler Plaza.
McAlister's remodeled the former Ashley's Pub location and combined it with the adjacent office spot to upgrade to the company's new national design standard.
4 Rivers Smokehouse
Meantime, Winter Park-based 4 Rivers Smokehouse started construction a couple weeks ago in the old McAlister's at the end of the shopping center and will combine the space with the former Fastsigns location behind it to build a 5,000-square-foot restaurant. Buildout is expected to take about 90 days.
