Fla. swimmers caught in dangerous rip currents

JUPITER, Fla. — One person is in critical condition after being caught up in rip currents along a Palm Beach County beach.

The Palm Beach Post reports that 16 people were pulled from the rough waters along the county's coastline Sunday afternoon and evening.

Eight swimmers were pulled from the ocean in two separate incidents at Ocean City Park in Jupiter, one of them in critical condition. In the early evening Palm Beach County Fire Rescue say eight more people from the water near the Lake Worth pier.

At least eight people ended up in area hospitals.

A high rip current risk was in effect Sunday afternoon along the Palm Beach County beaches.
