CarMax is moving ahead with plans to build a used-car superstore on North Main Street.
The Gainesville Development Review Board unanimously approved a wellfield protection permit and development plan review for the dealership at its April 11 meeting.
The company has a contract to buy 13 acres of the wooded parcel north of Subaru of Gainesville at 4025 N. Main St., pending the permitting process.
The development plan calls for a 45,000-square-foot sales and delivery service building and a 3,700-square-foot car wash and gas station that would be available for the dealership's use only and not for the general public.
"While we continue to get approvals on property in Gainesville, it can take one to three years to get all approvals, complete construction and open a new store," said Michelle Topping Ellwood, CarMax public affairs coordinator.
CarMax, based in Richmond, Va., is a Fortune 500 company known for its "no-haggle" pricing with 120 locations.
