Several members of the Eastside High School boys and girls track teams will compete at the Class 2A championship meet with hopes of being crowned state champions in their events.

The Class 2A state championship meet will be held at noon Saturday at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

The Eastside athletes who will be competing in the state meet are:

— Sophomore Shadayza Bullock, shot put.

— Junior Alshateck Frazier, sophomore Anikeyawna Barber, senior Madison Brown and junior Shataya Williams, 4x100-meter relay.

— Senior Sir Jackson, 110m and 300m hurdles.

— Senior Carsten Thue-Bludworth, 800m and 1,600m.

Bullock advanced to the state meet by winning the Class 2A Regional shot put event with a throw of 42 feet and .07 inches. The girls 4x100 relay team advanced by placing fourth at regionals with a time of 49.62 seconds.

Jackson advanced by placing fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.10 and placing first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 38.85.

Thue-Bludworth advanced by placing fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:59.58 and second in the 1,600m with a time of 4:29.39.

Eastside track coach Adrian Taylor said the trip to state is rewarding because he loves glowing in the success of his athletes.

“It is good to see the younger kids go and compete because it fuels a hunger in them to get back there the next year,” Taylor said. “I also get a lot of pleasure from seeing the seniors go to state and compete because they know it is the last time they will be competing at a track meet on the high school level. I just get a lot of joy out of seeing the kids have success.”
