Unwanted or out-of-date drugs will be collected for safe disposal at several locations by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.
Drugs can be taken to Walgreen stores at 1120 E. University Ave., 9125 NW 39th Ave. and 2415 SW 75th (Tower Road) St.
The event is part of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
In the five previous Take-Back events, the DEA, in conjunction with state, local and tribal law enforcement partners, collected more than 2 million pounds of prescription medications.
More than 100 pounds has been collected in Alachua County, sheriff’s Lt. Todd Kelly reported in a press release.
National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposal while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
