Unwanted or out-of-date drugs will be collected for safe disposal by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office at several locations Saturday.
The event is part of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
In the five previous Take-Back events, DEA in conjunction with state, local and tribal law enforcement partners has collected more than 2 million pounds of prescription medications.
More than 100 pounds has been collected in Alachua County, sheriff’s Lt. Todd Kelly reported in a press release.
National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposal while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. drugs can be taken to Walgreens stores at 9125 N.W. 39th Ave., 1120 E. University Ave. and 2415 SW 75th St.
