Special teams

Progress report: Trying to replace Caleb Sturgis is not going to be easy. The good news is the Gators started making some progress in that direction in the past week, with Brad Phillips delivering some clutch field goals at the end of practices. The punting game hasn't looked all that good because Kyle Christy is still recovering from shoulder surgery and has not been able to field snaps. He has, however, started punting again and seems to have regained his touch after being idle for more than a month.

Spring surprise: Francisco Velez, a walk-on from Ocala Trinity Catholic, has entered the competition at placekicker.

Spring star: Phillips has started coming on strong over the past week.
