Gas prices down slightly from a week ago

Gas prices are still sliding across the country and in Alachua County, down slightly from last week but showing around a 30-cent decrease from a year ago.

The retail price of a gallon of regular in Gainesville last week was $3.60, down 4 cents from the previous week and down from $3.95 during the same week last year, according to the website GasBuddy.com.

That pattern tracks prices elsewhere in Florida and in the United States.

In Florida, the average price last week was $3.45, down from $3.50 the previous week and from $3.86 the same week in 2012.

And nationally, the average price was $3.50, down from $3.52 last week. A year ago, the average price was $3.85.
