A closer look at what we learned about this upcoming group of Gators from spring practice.LinebackerProgress report: Already lacking depth, the Gators took a major hit when true freshman Alex Anzalone, the No. 2 middle linebacker, injured his shoulder the first day in pads and underwent spring-ending surgery. The big story has been the strong, steady play of Antonio Morrison at middle linebacker. Michael Taylor has had a good spring at outside linebacker and Darrin Kitchens has moved from outside linebacker to middle linebacker, where he is backing up Morrison. True freshman Daniel McMillian has flashed playmaking ability at outside linebacker.
Spring surprise: McMillian has made a bunch of plays. Once he gets comfortable in the defense, he'll be a major contributor in the fall.
Spring star: True sophomore Antonio Morrison made the move from outside linebacker to middle linebacker and has been one of UF's most dominant defensive players — and its biggest hitter.
