Gators' win streak ends after loss to Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri (13-22, 5-13 SEC) salvaged the finale of its weekend series with an 8-2 victory over Florida (22-19, 10-8 SEC) at Taylor Stadium, ending the Gators' season-high eight-game winning streak. Josh Lester was a career-best 4-for-4, Logan Pearson was 3-for-4 with a homer and a triple and Dylan Kelly was 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Tigers.
USF (26-14, 10-2 Big East) at Florida (22-19, 10-8 SEC), Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Missouri plated two runs on three hits in the opening frame against right-hander Tucker Simpson (1-2), who gave up four hits and two walks before being removed with two out in the third inning.
The Gators had runners on the corners with two down in the third inning when Casey Turgeon drew a two-out walk from Alec Rash and Taylor Gushue, who had three hits, moved him to third base on a single. A fielder's choice by Justin Shafer forced Gushue at second to complete the frame.
Gushue knocked a solo home run, his fourth of the year, in the fourth inning and the Gators plated another run on an RBI single by Turgeon in the ninth.
Florida returns home to face USF (26-14, 10-2 Big East), winners of 12 in a row, at McKethan Stadium on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
