A closer look at what we learned about this upcoming group of Gators from spring practice. Defensive end Progress report: With Dominique Easley spending time at tackle, the Gators have been low in numbers this spring. Losing Jonathan Bullard to a hamstring injury last week hasn't helped. But a lot of the negative has been wiped out by the often dynamic play of true sophomore Dante Fowler Jr. at the Buck position. With Ronald Powell expected back at 100 percent in August, the end positions should be a strength, even though depth remains a concern. Spring surprise: Redshirt freshman Bryan Cox Jr. is up to 260 pounds and has made a nice transition from outside linebacker to end.

Spring star: Fowler, quicker and more explosive than he was as a true freshman last fall, has brought lots of heat with a steady pass rush.
