A Gainesville woman was arrested Friday night on a child neglect charge for allegedly leaving her 3-year-old daughter in her car in a motel parking lot while police say she sought drugs and prostituted herself, according to an arrest report.

Julie Kay Reddick, 23, of 9313 SW 101st Ave., was arrested by Gainesville police at the ABC Motel at 2000 SW 13th St. about 10:22 p.m. Police say the motel is a frequent scene of drug dealing, prostitution, disturbances and other crime.

The report by officer Joseph Dixon states that he saw a car in the rear parking lot with an unattended child in the back seat with the doors unlocked and the windows down.

Dixon reported that two known drug dealers and two known prostitutes were walking around the rear parking lot. None said they knew to whom the child and car belonged.

Meanwhile, an anonymous caller dialed 911 and reported that a woman was at the motel with a child asking people for drugs and soliciting herself for prostitution.

About six minutes later, a man walked up to Dixon at the car and gave him the identity of the child’s mother. The man called her on a cellphone.

The report states Reddick left a motel room about a minute later and came to the car. She reportedly told police she had given a ride to someone and did not want to wake her daughter, so she left her in the car.

Eventually the child’s father came to the scene, police said. The report states the father told police that Reddick has a drug problem and that the child has spinal muscular atrophy, which affects eating, swallowing and breathing.

The report states that Reddick denied she was looking for drugs and prostituting.
