Roundup: UF men's tennis wins first round at SEC's

The UF men's tennis team defeated South Carolina 4-0 win in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals in Oxford, Miss. The Gators will play the winner of Friday's match between Tennessee and Vanderbilt in the semifinals on Saturday.
Winning singles matches for UF were Stephane Piro at No. 1, Florent Diep at No. 2 and Mike Alford at No. 4. The doubles teams of Piro-Bob van Overbeek at No. 1 and Diep-Gordon Watson at No. 3 also won.
Men's golf: Florida brought up the rear in the 14-team SEC tournament at the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. Florida recorded a 301 (+21) on the first day at the par-72, 6,898 yard course. Auburn shot a 275 (-5) to lead.
Individually, senior Tyler McCumber led UF by recording a 72 (+2) for the first 18 holes of play and is in a tie for 23rd place. South Carolina's Caleb Sturgeon leads after a 65 (-5).
Tom Jones Memorial Classic: Florida will host its final home track and field event of the season starting at noon Saturday at Percy Beard Track. The event is free to the public.
The field includes Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, FIU, Jacksonville, Navy, UNF and UCF. Some standout post-collegians participating in the field include Will Claye, Jeff Demps, Justin Gatlin, Chantae McMillan, Tony McQuay, David Oliver, Shara Proctor, Calvin Smith, Loreal Smith and Kellie Wells.
The meet honors former longtime UF women's track and field coach Tom Jones, who died March 21, 2007 at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lacrosse: Another top-five matchup awaits No. 3 Florida (15-1, 3-1 ALC) starting at noon Saturday, as it hosts ALC rival and defending national champion Northwestern, ranked No. 4, for Senior Day at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
The Gators will honor 13 members of the senior class and two managers after Saturday's game, the first four-year class of seniors in program history.
