A closer look at what we learned about this upcoming group of Gators from spring practice. Tailback Progress report: Those flashes Matt Jones displayed late last season were no fluke. He's had an excellent spring and has distanced himself from the other tailbacks, who also have made positive strides, according to Muschamp. Jones is the clear No. 1 guy heading into the 2013 season.

Spring surprise: Even though he's still learning the offense, true freshman Kelvin Taylor has made some excellent runs with his vision and quick cutting ability. Another surprise has been walk-on Mark Herndon, who has contributed at tailback and on special teams. Spring star: Muschamp said the defense has had a hard time tackling the big, fast Jones, who appears to be the kind of downhill runner the coaches prefer in the pro-style offense.
