Gainesville police have released a sketch depicting a man with sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt as the attacker in the sexual assault and burglary Monday of a University of Florida student.
Officer Ben Tobias said the sketch was made with information from the victim, who was sexually assaulted at gunpoint.
Tobias said Thursday morning that detectives continue to investigate the case and hope that the sketch will create new leads.
The man assaulted the student in her home in the 400 block of Southwest 10th Street just after 4:30 a.m. Monday, according to a Gainesville Police Department report.
Police believe the man entered the home through an unlocked rear door. He took two MacBook Pro laptops, an iPhone and other personal items before leaving.
A nearby resident saw a man fitting the attacker's description walking west on Southwest Seventh Avenue. Officers searched the area but couldn't find the man.
He was described as a thin, 6-foot-tall black man wearing a gray sweatshirt, black “skinny” jeans and black wrap-around sunglasses.
GPD said the man should be considered armed and dangerous. Officers are urging anyone who can help identify the man to call detectives at 393-7670 or provide an anonymous tip by texting keyword “GPDFL” plus the tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
