SCHOOL: Fort White
EVENTS: 300 hurdles (national elite), 100 and 200 sprints
A rea track athlete you would pay to watch: Shadayza Bullock of Eastside. She does the shot (put) and discus, and she is really good. I used to run summer track with her, but she is also in our district.
B est movie I've ever seen: “Miracle.” I love history, too, so I like that part of it, talking about the history and the Olympics.
C oach Kemberly Jackson's best words of advice for me: Just go out there and do your best. Just focus on your lane and nothing else. It is just you and the clock.
D ay of a meet, I do what to prepare myself? I usually listen to music and pretty much block the world out.
Sitia has area's best times in the 100 (12.07) and 200 meters (25.54), and the 300 hurdles (44.34)
E ating habits during track and field season: Drink lots and lots of water. No junk food. Eat a lot of clean protein and a lot of carbohydrates. I usually eat a lot of carbohydrates the night before a meet.
F lorida Gators track & field is... amazing. I aspire to be like them.
G oing into this season, after finishing fourth at state a year ago in the 300 hurdles, my goal this year is ... I would love to place first in the hurdles and also place in the 100 meters.
H ardest part of training as a hurdler: You have to stay in rhythm as a hurdler. If you have an off day and you are not in rhythm, then that training day is not good. I usually try to bounce back from those and refocus.
I nteresting thing about me away from track & field: I love to read. I like historical books. I am very quiet. I really don't say much to anybody.
J oker on the team? We pretty much have all middle schoolers, so I would say all of them. They are pretty much all crazy. You never know what they are going to do.
K ey to juggling sports and academics: I always make school a priority. I'm not making excuses if I have a long day at the track. I know I have homework that I need to do. It is just getting it done.
Sitia is an honor roll student with a 3.8 GPA and has dual enrollment at Florida Gateway College in Lake City.
L east favorite Fort White track & field moment: When I fell and broke my wrist doing the 300 hurdles at Oak Hall during a middle school meet.
M usic I enjoy listening to: I like all types of music and will pretty much listen to anything.
N ike, Reebok, New Balance, Adidas, Asics or other running shoes? I have always had Nikes as my running spikes.
O ne person who inspires me most: My mom (Regina Martinez). She has always been very supportive. She is very hard working.
P re-race ritual: I say a prayer and clear out my mind.
Q uiet time activity? Reading.
R eading the newspaper or going online to get my high school sports coverage? I go online.
S uperstition I have: I always have to have water right before I race. I always do that, and if I didn't I think it would bother me.
T witter or Facebook? Facebook.
U niversities or colleges considering: Jacksonville University and Kenneshaw University in Georgia. The Jacksonville coach said he will be watching me at regionals (today).
V acation spot I love: I love going to beaches around Jacksonville. We go up there a lot.
W hat prompted you to give up basketball as a sport? I stopped in ninth grade. I injured myself and was drawn more to track and started putting all my interests in it.
Scored season-high eight points against Dixie County in 2009.
X box, PlayStation or Wii? Wii, we play Wii Sports
Y ear I was born: 1995.
Z oo animal I like most: Koala. I don't know why, maybe because they are cute.
