A Gainesville man was arrested Friday evening, accused of exposing himself to a woman and her daughter in the parking lot of the Publix shopping complex at 1200 N. Main St., police reported.
Gus McCoy, 66, of 1101 SE 15th St., was charged with lewd and lascivious exhibition by the Gainesville Police Department.
The incident occurred about 6:15 p.m. A woman told police that she and her 10-year-old daughter came out of a store and saw a man, later identified as McCoy, in the parking lot, according to the arrest report.
They told police he exposed himself and began masturbating. The report states the woman yelled, “If there was a cop around, I would call and have you put in jail.” She told police that McCoy replied, “I’m sorry, I just couldn’t help myself.”
The woman and her daughter went into Publix and told the incident to an off-duty Florida Highway Patrol trooper who was working security in his uniform.
GPD reported that the trooper ran to McCoy and detained him. The woman and her daughter separately identified McCoy as the man who exposed himself.
Under questioning by police, McCoy said he was urinating and that he couldn’t wait to go into a store to do it.
