A Union County man was killed and several injured in a crash near Lake Butler Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Brandon Holly, 40, was killed, FHP reported in a media release. Holly was a passenger. Another passenger, James Spear, 40, of Lake Butler, was taken to Shands at the University of Florida with serious injuries.

The accident occurred about 3 a.m. on County Road 238 south of Lake Butler and involved a 2004 Chevrolet truck, FHP reported, adding that the driver has not been identified.

Traveling north, the driver for unknown reasons veered off the road and lost control. FHP said the truck hit a telephone pole and a fence before stopping in a field.
