A University of Florida police officer trying to pass an SUV on Southwest 13th Street Monday afternoon hit the SUV, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident happened about 3:32 p.m. north of Archer Road. Samantha Griffin, 27, was driving a UFPD Ford SUV with lights and sirens southbound in the left lane of 13th Street, FHP reported in a press release. UFPD Maj. Brad Barber said she was going to an emergency at P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School.
Griffin tried to get around a stopped 2002 Ford SUV driven by Ebony Burton, 39, of Marion County by driving in the decorative median and a portion of the left lane, the report stated.
Griffin misjudged the distance between the two SUVs and struck Burton's Ford. The report states that charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
No one was hurt.
