A Florida Highway Patrol trooper received minor injuries Monday afternoon when his parked cruiser was hit by a car that had been involved in an accident, FHP reported.
Trooper Matthew Finley and the other two drivers involved were treated for minor injuries at Lake City Medical Center following the accident, which occurred at 2:30 p.m. on northbound Interstate 75 just south of the U.S. 41/441 interchange in Columbia County.
Dominique Lynn Taylor, 20, of Port St. Lucie, was driving a 2007 Dodge Nitro north in the center lane. James Carl Jones, 55, of Alma, Ga., was driving a 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer northbound in the outside lane. Finley was parked in the median.
FHP reported that Taylor drove into the outside lane and hit the side of the trailer, knocking a rear tire off of her vehicle. Taylor was unable to regain control, traveled across all northbound lanes, hit a guardrail and then hit Finley’s FHP cruiser at the end of the guardrail.
Taylor was charged with failure to maintain a single lane.
