A 21-year-old Gainesville student was arrested Sunday on accusations he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl.

Tyrone Whetstone, 21, and the girl — who was an acquaintance — were both guests Sunday afternoon at the Gainesville home of the girl’s mother’s boyfriend, according to a report from the Gainesville Police Department.

Whetstone went into a bedroom to talk on the phone where four children, including the girl and her 10-year-old brother, were lying.

According to the report, Whetstone shoved one of the sleeping children to the other side of the bed and lay down next to the girl.

The girl said Whetstone touched her private areas and tried to have sex with her. She moved away from him, and he left the room, according to the report.

Whetstone was arrested about 5 p.m. at the house in the 200 block of Northeast First Street and taken to the Alachua County jail.

During a police interview, Whetstone first denied sexual contact with the girl and then admitted to it, police reported.

He was booked into the jail at 6:59 p.m. Sunday and charged with sexual assault of a victim 12 or older, a first-degree felony. He remained in the jail as of late Monday, with no bond set.
