A man suspected of trying to rob people at a North Main Street catering business early Friday morning was caught in part because several officers were in the area responding to a burglary alarm, police said.
David Hord, 41, was arrested on marijuana possession and two counts of robbery with a weapon.
Gainesville police Lt. Mike Schibuola said the robbery was reported at 1 a.m. at Celebration Cafe, 904 N. Main St.
Four employees reported that a man with a knife came in and tried to rob them before fleeing, Schibuola said. Several officers were in the area responding to a burglary alarm at the nearby CVS Pharmacy and set up a perimeter.
Schibuola said Officer Jeff Kerkau and the police dog Roo tracked a scent to a nearby home. Hord was spotted near the house and arrested. It was not determined if Hord had also triggered the CVS alarm.
