A Gainesville police officer trying to catch a red-light runner was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries early Friday morning, police said.

Officer Steve Carter was westbound at 3400 W. University Ave. at 2:06 a.m. with his lights and sirens on when he was hit by another car that entered the intersection because the driver’s view was obscured by a stopped truck, police reported.

Carter was taken to Shands for treatment of injuries and later released. The other driver had minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.
