The Spring Fling pet adoption event at Alachua County Animal Services continues Saturday with cats and dogs at reduced fees — or even free.
Adoption fees have been reduced to $40 for dogs and $30 for cats, down from $85 for dogs and $75 for cats. No fee will be charged for animals that have been at the shelter for more than one month.
More than 100 puppies, kittens, dogs and cats will be available for adoption at the Spring Fling on Saturday, said University of Florida veterinary professor Julie Levy in an email.
All pets come spayed and neutered, microchipped and vaccinated — a package worth hundreds of dollars, Levy said.
The event is sponsored by UF veterinary students in the Shelter Medicine Club, which is subsidizing the adoption fees.
Animal Services is renovating areas of the shelter and is trying to find home for as many cats and dogs so it can to make way for the work.
Animal Services is at 3900 NE 53rd Ave., and its hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
