Biathlon is Saturday at Northeast Pool

The first of a series of city-sponsored biathlon races takes place at the Dwight H. Hunter (Northeast) Pool at 8 a.m. Saturday, with registration starting at 7 a.m.

The 2013 Gainesville Biathlon Challenge, which will be held monthly through September, consists of a 5K run and 800-meter swim, with the winning female and male athletes of each race awarded two free pool passes for use at any city pool.

The registration fee today is $20 for city residents and $30 for non-residents. Early registration for future races is $15 for city residents and $22.50 for non-residents; early registration applies to those who sign up two days or earlier before the race.

The event will alternate between the Northeast Pool, 1100 NE 14th St., and the H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool, 1001 NW 31st Dr.
